‘Tis the season of longer evenings, cosy jumpers and merrymaking aplenty. Which means it’s also time to crack open the sloe gin. Whether you’re a sloe-forager, or prefer just buying your bottles, here’s three quick and easy sloe gin cocktails that truly make for Festive Cheer(s).
Simple, perfectly balanced, and the king of aperitifs – the Negroni is a classic Italian cocktail that mixes 3 easy ingredients into a gorgeous bitter sipper. The Festive Negroni simply swaps gin for sloe gin. And if you have a jar of cloves lurking around from mulled wine of Christmas past, use these as part of the garnish. Mix this cocktail straight in your tumbler. Start by filling glass with ice. Pour 25ml sloe gin, 25ml Campari and 25ml sweet vermouth. Stir. For that extra Christmassy garnish, cut a thick slice of orange & jab cloves along the rind.
Sprinkling some yuletide ginny cheer into a zingy retro classic, the Moscow Mule. Can be served in tumbler glasses, but if you can get your hands on some snazzy copper ones (the signature serving vessel of the Moscow Mule) you will be sure to impress. You can mix these straight in your cup/glass. Start by filling with ice. Then pour 50ml sloe gin, 12.5ml of lime juice and top with ginger beer. Stir. Add 2 drops of Angostura Bitters to the top. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
Razzle dazzle your guests with a sparkling Sloe 75, which is inspired by the classic French 75 cocktail, but substitutes gin for sloe gin. Transforming this already fabulous fizzy tipple into a very merry one with a splash of colour. In a cocktail shaker, pour 25ml sloe gin, 12.5ml lemon juice, and 5ml sugar syrup. Add ice and shake. Strain mixture into a coupette or flute and top with chilled bubbly. Garnish with a twist of lemon.
